About the event
On August 20 and 21, 2026, Central Florida HIDTA will host Artificial Intelligence & Law Enforcement, a 16-hour in-person training presented by Professional Law Enforcement Training (PLET). This two-day course examines how artificial intelligence is shaping modern policing, with practical instruction on facial recognition, predictive analytics, natural language processing, automated monitoring systems, and other data-driven tools used in law enforcement settings.
Participants will study both operational use cases and the challenges that come with AI adoption, including open-source investigations, deepfakes, drone-enabled technologies, agency implementation, and future AI trends. The course also addresses ethical, legal, and societal considerations such as algorithmic bias, privacy rights, due process, surveillance proportionality, public trust, and policy development for responsible use.
Through case studies, policy reviews, and a group practical exercise, attendees will evaluate how AI can improve public safety while preserving transparency, accountability, and civil liberties. Students must bring a laptop for the hands-on portion of the training.
